I was commissioned to hand-make 30 lapel pins for a faculty award recognising outstanding research by faculty members. At the time, I was deeply moved by bushfires' negative impact on the fauna in the natural environment. A particular problem suffered by the koala bears was burnt skin and the loss of their homes.

A series of lines and indented dots with various punches attempt to emulate the fur texture while bringing softness to the metal. We should note that our psychological and physical health is affected by the surface's texture and sensory perception of the body. The way it makes you feel affects your life positively or negatively.
